Why Responsible Pet Ownership Matters The Most

Any place will have finite space, including pounds and shelters. When the number of intakes far exceed the rate of rehabilitation and adoption, it leads to overcrowding, animal warehousing, strained resources and compromised quality of care.

Adding cages or expanding facilities is NOT a "SOLUTION". The challenge goes beyond space.

The root cause lies with irresponsible pet guardianship --

leaving pets sexually intact to keep on reproducing, allowing them to freely wander outside, abandoning/surrendering/ neglecting them when care becomes inconvenient.

WE CAN NEVER ADOPT OUR WAY OUT OF THIS PROBLEM as long as there are irresponsible pet owners, as long as spay/neuter is not accessible, affordable and a mainstream practice. Still, adoption as FIRST OPTION rather than as a last resort helps give the animals in pounds and shelters a chance at a loving home.
